The University of Southern California isn't performing up to standards this year. Their 7-4 record seems especially small in comparison to the teams consecutive Pac-10 wins in 2006 and 2007 under the guidance of Pete Carroll. Actually, the team hasn't been the same since they lost Pete. He currently coaches for the Seahawks in the NFL. Also, the exception was in 2009 when the team finished 6th overall, and they skunked their cross-town rivals, UCLA, 50-0. Coincidentally, the team's recent loss to the Bruins, coupled with lackluster performance, has resulted in rapper Snoop Dogg reconsidering his son, Cordell Broadus', attendance to the school.
Snoop is heavily involved in his son's interest in football. The rapper has been active in the boy's youth programs and even put together a rally song for the team. Now, the boy is a top-ranked high school receiver, and TMZ reports on Snoop's opinions of how USC's recent output has made him reconsider if his son should go there:
"Well SC fans ... we f**king suck," Snoop said. "Weak ass plays ... soft ass quarterback ... it's gonna be hard getting kids to go there now. He'll make his decision ... but like I'll say that loss right there gon' hurt. Because nobody wanna go to no school that can't beat their rivals."
Another side of the situation may be that, earlier this year, USC announced they would induct Pete Carroll into the Trojan's Hall of Fame. One starts to wonder if Carroll's departure has contributed to the team's decline in performance. ESPN covered the announcement:
"[The] Seattle Seahawk's head coach will be inducted into the University of Southern California Hall of Fame in 2015, the school announced Monday. Carroll coached at USC from 2001-09, leading the Trojans to two national championships (2003 and 2004), seven consecutive Pac-10 titles (2002-08) and a 97-19 overall record. USC made bowl trips in each of Carroll's nine seasons, winning seven of those games.
At this time it is clear that the Trojans are in serious need of another Pete Carroll, especially if they want to recruit serious up-and-comers like Cordell Broadus. What do you think? Let us know in the comment section below.
