Mink Stole, a star of many of John Waters' cult-favorite movies (Hairspray, Pink Flamingos, Cry-Baby, Female Trouble, Desperate Living, Serial Mom, Multiple Maniacs), will premiere her new holiday show OMG! It's Christmas! December 11-14 at the Off-Broadway Laurie Beechman Theatre in New York City.
In this holiday musical extravaganza Stole performs a glittering selection of seasonal songs including "Stay a Little Longer Santa," "Le Petit Tambour" ("The Little Drummer Boy" in French), Tom Lehrer's "Christmas Carol," "Christmas Time is Here" and a unique version of "The Twelve Days of Christmas." Her band features keyboardist Glenn Workman, drummer Skizz Cyzyk and upright bassist Dylan Kaminkow.
In addition to her dozens of film roles, Stole has appeared Off-Broadway in Love's Tangled Web at the Charles Ludlam Theatre with Charles Ludlam, Everett Quinton and Black-Eyed Susan, Big Noise of '92 at the Cherry Lane and Sleeping with Straight Men.
Her most recent New York appearance came last year in a sold-out revival of Tennessee Williams' rarely seen The Mutilated opposite Penny Arcade. Charles Isherwood wrote in his New York Times review, "My fears that this would prove to be an unprofitable bit of stunt casting quickly evaporated once the director Cosmin Chivu's production roared into life, with the happily tooting horns of a live Dixieland jazz band. Neither actress has much experience in traditional theater, but these two inhabit the scarred souls of their contrasting characters with an intuitive confidence, bringing these comic grotesques to scabrously funny life." Stole, who plays Trinket Dugan, he added, "invests this embattled, fragile woman with a moving dignity."
Just what John Waters always looked for.
