It wouldn't be the first time the maestro Daniel Barenboim meets the pope, citing earlier performances for Pope Benedict. Now, as of Nov. 17, Barenboim, 72, was received by Pope Francis.
What went on behind closed doors, you ask? Well, the duo discussed various topics everywhere from conflict in the Middle East to, most obviously, music.
The two South Americans were, as Barenboim put it, "very cordial."
But, as mentioned, Barenboim has had a private pope audience before. The earlier Pope Benedict was a music-lover in his own right.
However making music a centerpiece for political progress, Benedict and Barenboim called for Mideast peace at a concert for young musicians from Israel and other Arab countries.
I guess, also, Francis thought this machine could kill fascists too.
Also, Barenboim makes a star-studded debut on Anna Netrebko's forthcoming disc from Deutsche Grammophon: Richard Strauss, an homage to, well, Strauss. The LP drops Nov. 24.
Until then, C-lites, here's Barenboim below.
