Artie Lange is best known for his work on The Howard Stern Show, MADtv and even The Artie Lange Show. However, Lange is the topic of discussion again after the comedian added another page to his book of controversies on Wednesday, when he involved himself in an outlandishly racist, sexist and--not to mention--offensive dialogue on Twitter. This latest report follows Artie's high-profile suicide attempt and new standup special.
The whole exchange was dangerously aimed at one of ESPN's rising stars, Cari Champion. Lange took to Twitter, where he proclaimed how "fu**in' hot" he thought "the chick on ESPN's First Take" was.
To make matters worse, Lange described that he was touching himself, complaining that ESPN made it difficult because they kept "cutting back to Steven A. Smith and the white guy." Lang then described a sex slave fantasy involving himself as Thomas Jefferson. Lastly, he says how he wants her "to laugh at [his] white d***."
Classy!
Consequently, neither representatives of ESPN nor Comedy Central were laughing in the end. At first, an ESPN spokesperson told TMZ that "no one should be subjected to such hateful language," and that his actions were "reprehensible." However, ESPN was later quoted as saying that "there will be no further bookings" for Lange. Also, his appearance on Comedy Central's new show @Midnight has been canceled.
After feeling the backlash, Lange apologized, saying:
"@CariChampion they were all jokes. Stupid jokes. Very stupid but jokes. Pls don't let them harm you. If they did I'm sorry."
After getting more negative backlash from his comments, Lange tweeted:
"...I can't appear on @midnight... but who cares. I love the show and it's my living but who cares."
It would seem that Lange would be the one to care.
After his leaving of The Howard Stern Show, attempted suicide attempt and now this debacle, Lange's career resembles a deer in the headlights.
Unfortunately, the title of Lange's memoir, Crash and Burn, appears to be even more accurate than once thought.
