A stage show based on the wildly popular The Hunger Games young-adult novels and the film franchise starring Jennifer Lawrence is coming to the London stage in 2016, the film studio Lionsgate announced today.
Staged at a new purpose-built theater beside Wembley Stadium in London, the "theatrical experience" will feature innovative, immersive staging techniques co-developed with Triangular Entertainment and Dutch media firm Imagine Nation.
Co-producer and Imagine Nation co-founder Robin de Levita is the creator of an innovative 360-degree rotating auditorium for the sold-out Dutch musical Soldier of Orange and rotating sets for another Dutch production, ANNE, based on The Diary of Anne Frank.
"Robin de Levita and the entire production team are the perfect partners for extending The Hunger Games franchise into a live theatrical experience," said Lionsgate Chief Marketing Officer Tim Palen in a statement. "Their creative genius, combined with world-class production values and state-of-the-art technology will provide a uniquely immersive experience for fans around the world."
Added de Levita: "I’m thrilled to be partnering with an innovative next generation studio like Lionsgate on a property that resonates so deeply with global audiences. The theater is a fantastic medium to bring the many meaningful layers of Suzanne Collins' writing to life."
