Spoiler Alert: Tonight’s NBC new comic book drama, Constantine, starring Matt Ryan, is all new. This week Papa Midnite (Michael James Shaw) comes to life, straight out of the pages of DC Vertio’s Hellblazer. Check out the all new episode preview below to see what Papa Midnite has in store for everyone’s favorite chain-smoking exorcist.
The official plot synopsis for tonight’s all new episode, titled “The Devil's Vinyl,” reads:
“John and Zed find themselves in a dangerous confrontation with sinister forces as they try to save a family, who in desperation made a deal with the devil. Meanwhile, John confronts the darkness in his own life; and comes face-to-face with a new powerful adversary in Papa Midnite.”
Papa Midnite is a villain straight of the Hellblazer comics. A vodun shaman who has survived since the revolutionary days.
Michael James Shaw plays the character portrayed by Djimon Hounsou in the Constantine movie.
Recently, Shaw spoke to HitFix about landing the role:
“I really enjoy playing villains, I've played a lot of them in my life. Also, when I audition, it's not really about, ‘Oh, I'm gonna book this part.’ It's more so a chance to get to step into another person's shoes, another character's life and when I started reading up about him -- Because I had never read any Constantine books, I'd seen the movie with Djimon Hounsou and I enjoyed it, but I had no details about the world -- so as I started researching about Papa Midnite and his background and his history, I was like, ‘Oh, this is really deep and juicy.’ I don't know. I just kinda latched onto it and now the rest is history, I guess.”
Be sure to check out the all new episode of Constantine tonight at 10:00 p.m. eastern on NBC.
