‘American Horror Story: Freak Show’ Creator Ryan Murphy Talks Elsa Jessica Lange Leg Amputation After David Bowie ‘Life on Mars’ and Lana Del Rey ‘Gods and Monsters’ Song Covers [SPOILERS]

This season of American Horror Story, subtitled Freak Show, has been the darkest and most sexual season yet. One of the many elements that makes AHS: Season 4 the Freakiest Show, is the lovely Jessica Lange. Her character Elsa has wowed us with her anachronistic covers of David Bowie’s “Life and Mars,” & Lana Del Rey’s “God and Monsters,” and her shocking tale of sin and amputation. Now AHS and Glee creator Ryan Murphy has opened up Elsa’s past and future.

As a young German girl, Jessica Lange’s character Elsa fell in love showbizz, leading her smack bottom in the demanding world of a dominatrix, and landing knee deep in a snuff film. However, none of that bother Jessica Lange, as AHS creator Ryan Murphy recently told Entertainment Weekly:

“She is a big photographer and she collects photography, and she’s had an interest in photography of that time. So she’s very familiar with what that was. You know she loves a good flashback, Jessica Lange. She was very brave with that stuff. I thought she would be a little more squeamish because she doesn’t like a lot of blood, as everyone knows. It was a two part thing: the tragedy of the snuff film, but then in future episodes we find out who actually made her those perfect legs. So she liked that.”

What we have seen so far, it is clear that Elsa cares more about being in the spotlight, than anything else, especially love, as Murphy added:

“I told Jessica very early on that this season her love interest is her career. That sort of woman who wants to be a star at all costs. Show business is the great paramour of her life. We do dribs and dabs, but it’s not an Axeman/Fiona love story, no.”

Check out new episodes of American Horror Story: Freak Show, Wednesday nights at 10:00 p.m. on FX.
