Gotham recently came under fire when it was reported that a white stunt women, was cast to double for a black actress. The double was “painted down,” a process similar to blackface, where an actor’s skin is painted to match the skin of who they are performing in place of.
After it was revealed that a white actress was being cast to double for a African American guest star, Warner Brothers put a stop to the move, releasing a statement to the press:
“A mistake was made this week in casting a stunt woman for a guest star in a particular scene on the show. The situation has been rectified, and we regret the error.”
