AFC West: Chargers Lose Two in a Row after 5-Game Winning Streak; Chiefs and Broncos Defeat San Diego In One Week

The San Diego Chargers, after getting out to an impressive 5-1 start this year, have dropped two games in a row. Their 5-game winning streak was stopped by a deceptively able Kansas City Chiefs squad, and then they ran into Hurricane Peyton and the Broncos fresh off of Manning's record-breaking performance against San Francisco last Sunday. So, in less than one week, The Chargers have become a 5-3 team. But somebody better keep an eye on Kansas City Chiefs, because excluding their embarrassing season opener loser to the Titans, the Chiefs are looking like a solid competitor looking to steal second place in the AFC West late in the season.

San Diego had a shot at shaking things up in the AFC West Thursday, but the Denver Broncos are just too strong right now, and Peyton Manning and company seem set on clinching their division once again.

Still, San Diego feels worthy of the competition (via ESPN):

"'They're better than us right now,' San Diego safety Eric Weddle said. 'That's the reality of it. It's a long season. When we meet them again, however many more times, we'll be better.'"

However, if the current trend for San Diego continues, Kansas City might have a chance of making a run at a wild card spot in the playoffs (via SB Nation):

"The Chiefs might not have a quote-unquote elite quarterback, but what they do have is a very strong run game with a balanced and efficient pass offense, and they've paired it with a defense that features a disruptive pass rush and an improving secondary. It's an equation that you can use to win games with in the NFL."

The Chiefs are definitely a dark horse, but they could easily make some moves down the stretch and end up with a playoff berth.
