Three touchdowns and a pair of field goals doesn't really sound like a blowout, but when you're the Baltimore Ravens defense, it might as well be 50-0. The hard-nosed squad, always known for their toughness and propensity to limit opposing teams, likewise relieve QB Joe Flacco of some of the pressure to perform. In essence, the two units lean on and support each other. Now 5-2, coach John Harbaugh is keeping the team as focused as ever after Sunday's win over the Falcons, 29-7.
As always, Baltimore put a hurtin' on their opposing team's quarterback. Atlanta's Matt Ryan and his Falcons have lost all but two games this year, but at least they know how to put some points on the board. Baltimore's D, however, held them to a season-low 7 points (via CBS Baltimore):
"It was an impressive showing for the Ravens defense once again in Week 7. Going against premier receivers in Roddy White and Julio Jones, many thought that they would struggle to contain the Falcons offense. The Ravens secondary would answer the call and kept many of Matt Ryan's weapons in check."
Matt Ryan said that although they felt prepared to face the Ravens, they just plain got beat (via NFL.com):
"I think they've got a big menu in terms of what they do defensively. I thought we were on top of schematically what they wanted to do. Our issue came down to execution. I thought they out-executed us. They played better than we did."
Even without their old workhorse Ray Rice, the Ravens are looking mighty good heading into the back half of this season. At 5-2, Baltimore has scored an average of 27.57 points a game so far, pretty impressive for a defensive-minded organization.
