The Oakland Raiders, who are 0-5 on the season, have lost eleven straight games. In a ball burial ceremony before their most recent loss, Interim Raiders coach Tony Sparano dug a hole and put a football in it. This symbolic gesture was borrowed from former mentor Rex Ryan, with the intent of putting the past behind them. It didn't yield immediate dividends, though their tough play and schematic preparation made the San Diego Chargers' victory a difficult one. The Chargers, along with the Raiders and the St. Louis Rams, have reportedly been named as potential former LA-based NFL Teams which might be relocated back to Los Angeles.
Tony Sparano inherited a losing team, but he's trying to put all that in the past now. Before Sunday's game, he led his players in a little exercise, where he buried a football that was intended to represent their 0-4 start, with the intention of moving on to a brighter day (via New York Post):
"What this ball represents and what this hole represents is the first four games of the season, the first quarter of our season. So this ball, to me, goes into this hole, it's four games worth. Those four games are over with, and we're about ready to go to work."
Maybe the past isn't such a bad thing. The LA Raiders were a consistently formidable team, before being shuffled off to Oakland.
Now revisiting that past actually seems possible, but not probable as it seems two other former LA teams reportedly have first dibs (via Fan Sided):
"For nostalgic purposes, having the Raiders move back to Los Angeles would be a brilliant move, but it's not something that seems likely unless the Rams and Chargers reconsider and remain in their small markets."
