Rex Ryan Fired? Comments to Peyton Manning after Broncos Win Sparks Rumors About Jets Coach

New York Jets Coach Rex Ryan reportedly said something to Denver Broncos QB Peyton Manning on Sunday. Those comments have people wondering about Ryan's position with the Jets. After Denver's 31-17 win over the Jets, people are asking whether Ryan is about to be fired. For now it's just rumors and hearsay, but be on the lookout if the Jets don't improve on their 1-5 record.

When Rex Ryan spoke to Peyton Manning after the Broncos defeated the Jets on Sunday, he reportedly said, "It's been an honor."

But he denied that those words had any bearing on his job security with the Jets.

Ryan insists that his words were more about the game itself. Manning is an elite quarterback, one of the all-time greats. Ryan, a keen strategist and student of the game, was merely congratulating Manning on a well-played contest (via ESPN):

"I enjoy the chess match and I appreciate going against the best. I can say I don't like them, but I respect them. There are two guys in this league that I have the most respect for. But again, at the time, I am not trying to hurt them, but I am trying to kill them, I want to win."

Obviously Ryan's words were no empty praise. Manning is set to surpass Brett Favre any day now, in a very important category (via NFL.com):

"Manning has 506 career touchdown passes, and could tie or break Favre's record next Sunday at home against San Francisco."

Of course Denver has a good team. They won the AFC last year. However, the Jets' abysmal 1-5 record surely must be a concern for Ryan and his bosses in the front office.

Of course, if he loses his job, Ryan joked, he could always drive a truck.
