The official Mega Millions lottery website is reporting on one lucky winner who has won twice:
“September 25, 2014 - When Judy Marsh looked at her Mega Millions ticket and realized she’d matched the first five numbers, it was a case of déjà vu.
“‘I told my boyfriend, ‘I won!’’ the Abingdon, Va., woman said. ‘He didn’t believe me – again.’
He didn’t believe her the first time either. In 2008 she won $250,000 playing Mega Millions.
“Ms. Marsh won $1 million in the September 23, 2014, Mega Millions drawing. She bought the winning ticket at Kroger, 466 South Cummings Street in Abingdon. On September 25 she returned to the store to receive her check from the Virginia Lottery. The store received a $10,000 bonus from the Lottery for selling the winning ticket.
“The winning numbers were 21-24-25-40-43 and the Mega Ball number was 12. The only number Ms. Marsh failed to match was the Mega Ball number. Had she matched all six numbers, she would have won a jackpot estimated at $83 million.”
The Mega Millions website is also detailing the events leading to tonight’s massive jackpot:
“For just the third time this year, the Mega Millions jackpot has surpassed $150 million, with an estimated $166 million up for grabs next Tuesday after no ticket matched all six numbers (2, 32, 35, 50, 59 plus the Mega Ball of 3) in the October 10 draw...The jackpot has been rolling since it was last won in California at $180 million on August 22. A California winner also took a $30 million jackpot on April 4. Other jackpot winners this year have been in Tennessee ($61 million on January 3), in New York ($20 million on March 25), in Pennsylvania ($149 million on May 20), in Michigan ($66 million on June 13) and in Texas ($33 million on June 27). The largest jackpot this year, and third-highest Mega Millions jackpot ever, was a $414 million prize split between winners in Florida and Maryland on March 18.”
