Former Ravens running back Ray Rice is reportedly looking to fast track his appeal of the indefinite suspension levied against him after video footage of his vicious assault of his wife Janay Palmer surfaced last month. The assault case did not go to trial, as Rice applied for PTI, but the graphic and brutal nature of the beating caused the NFL to amend their initial two-game suspension. Rice is appealing the decision, but doesn't want to wait for the independent investigation to conclude, which could take months. Meanwhile, Baltimore Ravens coach John Harbaugh continues to try and run the football without his star back.
Ray Rice has decided that he wants to fast track his hearing on the suspension he was given after assaulting his wife. Initially, he was to wait until the matter could be investigated independently, but who has time to wait? (via USA Today):
"Waiting it out could mean Rice, 27, doesn't move forward with his push for reinstatement until after the season. A hearing now could come as soon as the end of this month, the person said, though no date had been set as of Wednesday night."
While Rice goes about trying to get reinstated, Baltimore Ravens coach John Harbaugh is responding to criticism about his strategy. The only problem with their assessment, he says, is that they didn't have the ball enough to implement a strategy.
He still aims to run the ball, though, even without workhorse Ray Rice (via ESPN):
"When the season is over, you look back and you say, 'You know what? We need to run the ball more and better... And last year, [we] did that... We're going to be a running team. There's no question about it, we can run the football, but we're also going to be a passing team... And we're going to try to win football games. That's what we're going to do."
