SPOILER ALERT: NBC’s Chicago Fire is all new this Tuesday. Recently the hit series killed off a major character, Shay (Lauren Graham). Now it looks like they might be another death in this coming episode. However, there is some good news for the Jesse Spencer (House M.D.) lead series, will be soon be crossing over with the Sophia Bush lead spin-off, Chicago PD and the long running Law & Order: SVU.
The official plot synopsis for this week's all new episode, titled “Just Drive the Truck,” reads:
“A crash involving fire trucks from Firehouse 51 and the Austin firehouse results in drama and blame-shifting. Elsewhere, Boden makes a plan to get Dawson her badge; Mills deals with his past and his future; and the Molly's gang have trouble with their new food truck”
With the two trucks slamming into each other, it is entirely likely that someone else might die. This would be just weeks after losing Shay (Lauren German).
Recently Executive producer, Matt Olmstead, told TV Line about why they decided to kill off Shay:
“Going into it, we knew if we were going to do it, it had to be someone who was going to give us a big impact, as opposed to going for a lesser-known character, which would equate to a pulled punch. So, as opposed to approaching it with timidity, we thought we’d go for it... In the writers’ room, we have [photos of] all the actors in character lined up just as a visual reference. We went down, one by one… It’s like a roster of a sports team when you’re having to make a cut. You’re having to weigh the pros and cons of each one. Some we moved off in two seconds, said that wasn’t going to happen. Others we debated, but we gave everybody a day in court. We came back to Shay because it affected the most people.”
Whoever survives will soon be heading over to New York for the upcoming Law & Order/Chicago PD crossover. Dick Wolf, the creator of all three show, recently released a statement about the crossover to the press, reading (via E! News)
"Warren Leight (SVU showrunner) and Matt Olmstead (Chicago Fire/Chicago PD showrunner) are two of the best writers in the business. We wanted to figure out a way to create a crime that connects all three shows. Warren, Matt and I came up with a story that was big and unique enough to transit to all three."
Be sure to check out the all new episode of Chicago Fire Tuesday night at 10:00 p.m. eastern on NBC.
