In yet another rout on Thursday Night Football, the Green Bay Packers absolutely destroyed the Minnesota Vikings 42-10. The lopsided score had as much to do with injuries as it did with the limited time players had to cope with those injuries in the short turnaround. But the good news for Minnesota is Terry Bridgewater is expected to return next week against Detroit.
Vikings coach Mike Zimmer took the loss especially hard, since he has always prided himself on hard-nosed defense that was tough to run against. On Thursday, though, his defense had more holes than a ten-year old pair of underwear (via CBS Minnesota):
"There's nothing more disheartening as a coach for you to get manhandled up front, to be in the wrong gaps, to have people running the ball at you."
Zimmer felt that individualistic play on defense created opportunities for Green Bay to exploit, and Packers QB Aaron Rodgers was smart enough to capitalize on that. Said Rodgers (via Sports Illustrated):
"We didn't play great on offense tonight, but our defense has been playing really well the last couple of weeks -- especially the last six quarters -- and when they play like that, we should win games like this."
Hopefully Minnesota, with the extra time to heal, and with the hot hand Terry Bridgewater back in the saddle next week, the Vikings can show the same spark they had two weeks ago.
