A while back, Classicalite wrote about the Colorado Symphony and its latest efforts at bringing a "higher listening" concert series to patrons. Entitled Classically Cannabis: The High Note Series, its end-of-summer concert brought some listeners a rather transcendental experience at the Red Rocks Amphitheater in Denver.
Having hit some snags early on, the series was able to take the stage at Red Rocks. Sponsors had pulled out knowing the audience would be engaging in cannabis consumption, something the state prohibits by law in a public setting despite marijuana being legal.
But it is these types of initiatives that help bring a younger audience to the classical spectrum. Orchestras around the country have been shutting their doors and swimming in financial strife.
Recent efforts like "Beethoven and Brews" to composing a new theme for the Colorado Rockies are relevant topics to millenials — cannabis is not exactly the focal point of the CSO.
Chris Walker at the blog Westword attended the ultimate summer performance, recanting his moments at the Denver Wellness Center and then at the concert. For any of you who have been to Red Rocks, then it is apparent how the landscape caters to music that is, well, on "another level."
A program that features the finest arrangements from Greenwood's There Will Be Blood suite to the finest Edible Events Co. products in town, the show must have been quite an experience.
