Time for another 50 Shades of Grey movie news update. Turns out scientists have deemed EL James' popular book dangerous, following reports that Charlie Hunnam abandoned the title role of Christian Grey.
Sexy Sons of Anarchy star Charlie Hunnam may have dodged a bullet when he walked away from the most anticipated film of the year. According to a new report, reading EL James' hallmark mommy-porn novella could have some dire consequences.
Mail Online was among a number of media outlets to cover Michigan State University's study that found reading 50 Shades could turn women into raging alcoholics:
"Reading Fifty Shades of Grey could have a dramatic effect on the personalities of young women, a controversial new study has claimed...Researchers say young adult women who read the book are more likely than nonreaders to exhibit signs of eating disorders and have a verbally abusive partner...Women who read all three books in the series are at increased risk of engaging in binge drinking and having multiple sex partners, it found."
Lucky for Charlie, he dropped out of the project so soon, he likely didn't even have time to read the script.
He did have time, however, to sit down with Moviephone, where he discussed what it was like to walk away from the project. Turns out, Charlie was having a nervous breakdown:
"I wouldn't have signed up in the first place if I didn't want to do it...It was a really, really difficult time in my life. And then I just fell in love, creatively...I started talking about this thing and I just got so excited. I fell in love with the character and started seeing him and becoming intoxicated...[Due to a hectic work schedule] I just had like ... frankly, something of a nervous breakdown."
What do you think about the latest rumors? Do you really think that 50 Shades of Grey is dangerous? Did Charlie Hunnam make the right decision leaving?
