The often outspoken Richard Sherman refuted any claims that the Denver Broncos were closing the gap on their Super Bowl opponents the Seattle Seahawks in their recent rematch. Sherman, the 'Hawks' self-proclaimed shut down corner, bashed the Broncos, saying that he and his team were still the dominant squad in the NFL even though the score was much closer this time. Elsewhere on Sherman's table, it seems that one of his sponsors, Campbell's Soup, has some doubts about continuing their partnership with the NFL due to the recent media attention on domestic violence within the league.
Seattle's Richard Sherman and company bounced back last week after a surprise loss to the Chargers in week 2. They just happened to bounce back against last year's AFC Champs, the Denver Broncos. Sherman reminded the press that they decimated Denver in the Super Bowl last year, and just because the score was closer last weekend, his team is still in control (via Mile High Report):
"I don't know about 'closing gaps' and all that. We should have been able to make the plays to put the game away. It shouldn't have been that close."
One thing that Sherman can't control is the firestorm surrounding the league's public image since the Ray Rice media cycle began.
Campbell's Soups, one of the NFL's sponsors, issued a statement regarding the controversy (via Biz Journals):
"Domestic violence is abhorrent. We are watching developments closely and look forward to the findings of the independent investigation underway. Upon completion of the investigation, we expect the NFL to take appropriate action. We have shared our views with the NFL."
Surprisingly Richard Sherman, who is one of the league's athletes endorsing Campbell's Chunky Soup, does not have a statement at this time about the investigation. The internet just broke.
