Deion Sanders caused a stir when he reported on the NFL Network that the San Francisco 49ers players want to get rid of coach Jim Harbaugh. Harbaugh flatly denies the rumor, which cited several unnamed sources. After snapping a two-game losing streak, San Fran shouldn't have much to complain about other than missing about half their starters. At any rate, they've got to be proud of Colin Kaepernick's game-winning touchdown pass to Frank Gore to beat the Philadelphia Eagles 26-21.
Deion "Prime Time" Sanders was always a pot-stirrer, but he really got things going when he insinuated that there was dissension in the San Francisco locker room (via ESPN):
"I really want to know if they're really playing for their head coach. I've got a question with that... Because the way it looks to me and what I'm hearing, you're really not down with your head coach, and that's a problem."
According to ESPN, Harbaugh flatly denies the claim, calling it "a bunch of crap."
Meanwhile, on the field, San Francisco quarterback Colin Kaepernick dealt Philly their first loss of the season when he connected with running back Frank Gore for a 55-yard touchdown pass (via CBS Sports):
''Kap did a great job keeping his eyes up field. I had no idea. When he stopped, pulled it up and started to throw, I didn't know where he was going with the ball. The speed, the angle, the way he got into the end zone was something. I didn't think he was going to get it in.''
So far, the rumors surrounding the climate in the 49ers' locker room are just that, however, ESPN notes that there is any discussions about extending Harbaugh's contract have been tabled for now.
