Fox ‘Gotham’ Catwoman Episode ‘Selina Kyle’ Preview: Carol Kane Cast As Robin Lord Taylor Penguin’s Mother [SPOILER]

Fox’s new Batman prequel, Gotham is new tonight with its second episode, titled “Selina Kyle” after the anti-hero Catwoman. The first episode wowed viewers, with Robin Lord Taylor standing out as The Penguin. Now this week we get to meet mamma Penguin, Gertrude Kabelput, played by Carol Kane.

The official plot synopsis for tonight’s all new episode of Gotham, titled “Selina Kyle,” reads:

“A child-trafficking ring is investigated, and one of the victims is Selina Kyle. Elsewhere, Penguin blazes a bloody trail back to Gotham.”

Tonight we are going to meet the Penguin's mother, Gertrude Kabelput, played by the highly acclaimed Carol Kane.

Recently, Gotham creator, Bruno Heller spoke to TV Guide, about the mamma Penguin:

"If you meet someone's mother, you immediately get an insight into their inner character. It seemed to me that the Napoleonic certainty and self-confidence that the Penguin possesses must have come from a loving and supportive mother. But his mother was pouring love on a vicious sociopath. To render the true pathos of that delusion requires a comic actress of great skill and sensitivity and heart, and Carol Kane has all that in spades along with a silent movie heroine's face that works perfectly with Penguin."

Cane also spoke to the publication about her character, adding:

“She's European, and I think she lived a much more genteel life when she was young and in Europe. Now, money is obviously a problem. [As Gertrude] I strive to keep up my standards of etiquette and dressing carefully and trying to impart the best standards for my son. I love and treasure him, and I wish I could take care of him, but he's a grown-up now. So, he's gone out in the world, and that's difficult for me.”

Check out the all new episode of Gotham tonight at 8:00 p.m. on Fox.
