After tonight, HBO’s Boardwalk Empire will already be halfway done with its fifth and final season. Check out the preview of tonight’s all new episode to see what is store for Nucky (Steve Buscemi) and the rest of depression era Atlantic City.
The official plot synopsis for tonight’s all new episode, titled “Cuanto,” reads:
“Luciano encounters an old foe in Chicago, while Nucky and Margaret find common ground in Atlantic City when they face the same dilemma. Meanwhile, Sally conducts business in Cuba as rumors swirl of a public uprising; and in 1884, a young Nucky continues to impress the Commodore, and gives Eli a glimpse of what the future may hold.”
[Boardwalk Empire] creator and former The Soprano’s, writer, Terence Winter, the series creator and showrunner, recently appeared on NPR’s Fresh Air, where he spoke to the show’s host Terry Gross about the series:
"The more I ... read about it, there [were] so many things in the '20s that were really a mirror to current society Essentially, the illegal alcohol business is the drug business. ... The fact that we're still debating women's rights ... we're still debating evolution almost 100 years later. I thought, 'God, what an opportunity to really do a show that holds up a mirror to current society, and it's 90 years in the past.' "
Winter, also opened up about the messy job of having to kill off characters, adding:
“Part of what makes [Boardwalk Empire] special for me is that we try to be as true to the characters as possible and let the chips fall where they may in terms of actor deals and commitments and that sort of stuff. We made a deal with ourselves early on, on The Sopranos, that we would never keep a character alive because we like the actor who portrayed them. Because [then] we felt we would never kill anybody. You start to get very close to people, and if you start to let personal relationships bleed into the work, it really colors it in a bad way. …”
Check out the all new episode of Boardwalk Empire tonight at 9:00 p.m. on HBO.
