Carolina Panthers DE Greg Hardy is appealing his domestic violence conviction, but will the big man get a new verdict or will the old ruling stand? The Kraken, as Hardy is known on game days, is praying he won't get sunk.
Hardy has been benched until his legal matter is resolved, a high-profile situation in light of the recent highlighting of NFL players treating women like punching bags. But Hardy says he didn't do it.
According to WCNC, NBC's Charlotte-based affiliate, local defense attorney Claire Rauscher thinks that given the current social climate, it might be difficult finding impartial jurors (via WCNC):
"Really what you're looking for, you're looking for people who can be fair and can be open minded," she said. "You know who you don't want. You don't want people who were either victims of domestic violence or family members of folks with domestic violence."
While Hardy will have to put on his game face, hopefully that won't include his famous face paint, which has garnered him some fines from the league.
Hardy says the face paint is part of his game day persona, The Kraken (via CBS Sports):
"On Wednesday or Thursday, I go down in my subconscious. I find him, and I unlock the cage. About Saturday he usually comes out. Then he's always out on Sunday. I don't control him then. What he does when I'm not there, I don't know."
Perhaps the Kraken will make its way into the courtroom in one way or another.
