Michael Sam's Former Team Beat Cocks as Missouri Tigers Defeat SEC Rival Steve Spurrier's University of South Carolina

The unranked Missouri Tigers just upset the number 13 team in the nation in Williams Brice Stadium. Michael Sam's former team came back from behind late in the fourth quarter to beat SEC rivals, the University of South Carolina Gamecocks. The Cocks, led by coach Steve Spurrier, gave up a two touchdown lead after their defense allowed a 3 play, 68-yard drive for 6.

USC's defense looked strong for about 52 minutes, but completely unraveled on the last two possessions. Mizzou scored fourteen points late in the fourth quarter to top South Carolina 21-20.

The so-called Columbia Bowl ended closely for the second year in a row (via ESPN):

"The outcome was a sweet turnaround for Missouri, which lost a 17-point lead in the Gamecocks' double-overtime victory last year."

Although defensive stars like Sam and Carolina's Jadeveon Clowney are no longer playing for their respective college teams, it was still a hard-fought, low-scoring affair until the end of the game (via Kansas City.com):

"... Clowney, who was the No. 1 overall pick by the Texans in May's NFL Draft, and Quarles are gone - good news for Missouri. Still, the cupboard isn't bare for South Carolina."
