Fans of Chicago Fire were warned that there was going to be a death in the Season 3 premiere, however, many were shocked to learn just who is was that died. Fan favorite, paramedic Shay, was the unfortunate soul. It came as a particular shock for those who never would have thought that series would kill off one its few female characters, who is also a lesbian. However, the producers, and death itself, didn’t discriminate when it came time to lay down the axe. Now actress, Lauren German is saying goodbye to the Shay via Twitter.
Following the airing of the episode, Lauren said her goodbyes to the show, the fans and the character in a string of Tweets, reading:
“Hello beautiful people! I want to say thank you to NBC, Dick Wolf and the entire team for letting me be a part of such an amazing experience.”
“I have to say I've never been around a more gifted, special, heartfelt, funny and loving cast and crew as with the CF gang. The show gave me.”
“beautiful. It was a great honor to portray Shay. I love her: her spirit, her flaws, her honesty. And most of all she brought me the most.”
Recently, Chicago Fire executive producer, Matt Olmstead, spoke to TV Line about what is going to miss the most about both Lauren German and her character Shay:
“What I’m going to miss about Shay is what I’m going to miss about Lauren German, which is an extremely talented actress who can play both heavy dramatic scenes, but had a light touch and was funny and just likable. Having gone through a lot of casting sessions, a lot of shows, for whatever reason, only a few people really have it in terms of that kind of magical combination. She definitely has it. What’s great about her is you could write anything to her, knowing she would be able to hit it out of the park, whether it was heavy or that rascal-y aspect of her character. She was really a can-do-it-all actress.”
