Sam and Cat has officially been canceled, meaning former iCarly star Jennette McCurdy is out of a job. However, the starlet has something else planned. So what is next for Jennette McCurdy? A web-series about not knowing what is next. The new show, titled What’s Next For Sarah, loosely based on Jennette’s real life experience, is out now. Jennette not only stars in the new series, but she also wrote it and co-produces it. The first four episodes are directed by her super-best friend, Colton Tran.
Jennette McCurdy recently spoke with The Hollywood Reporter about the new series, describing:
"I wanted What’s Next for Sarah to be a light-hearted call-out to some of the more absurd experiences I've faced growing up in the entertainment industry..My goal was to exaggerate some of the more classic Hollywood archetypes -- the phony reporter, the insincere agent, the duplicitous casting director -- and heighten them to a surreal extent that we can all laugh at. We all have those moments where we feel like the world is entirely crazy, and we’re the only sane person."
McCurdy went on to talk about trying her hand behind the camera:
"I saw What’s Next for Sarah as a creative opportunity for me to try my hand at more behind-the-scenes aspects of entertainment and learn more about the production process as a whole."
Producer Jesse Bloch also chimed in the series, telling THR just how much of the show takes from real life:
"[The show] is influenced from experiences in Jennette's career in Hollywood. Some are quite truthful and others completely exaggerated, but they're all meant to show the absurd moments of living in the spotlight of the entertainment industry that one goes through from time to time."
