Vernon Davis Return after Ankle Injury: San Fran Tight End Back Means Asante Cleveland Fired

Yesterday San Francisco 49ers tight end Vernon Davis was seen walking without a limp. That's a good sign from a dude who was suffering from an ankle injury. Davis says he's feeling great, and the 49ers are so hopeful that he'll return to action that they've waived replacement TE Asante Cleveland. Cleveland was basically fired to make room for the guy he initially replaced on the roster, backup quarterback Josh Johnson, according to Niners Nation.

Ol' Captain Torpedo himself, Vernon Davis, seems to be faring much better after missing Sunday's game against the Cardinals (via NBC Sports):

"'I'm feeling great,' Davis said, via the Sacramento Bee. 'This is going to be a good week for me.'"

Of course, that means that Asante Cleveland has to go back to the practice squad.

Moving on, Davis is probably going to be ready for action this weekend against Philly (via Niners Nation):

"Harbaugh was asked if he had 'a feeling where Vernon Davis might be on Sunday', to which he said he was optimistic, and very hopeful that he would play on Sunday."

It would be nice if San Francisco had more than a handful of starters, many of whom are out due to suspension or injury.
