Russell Wilson, by all accounts, is the nicest guy on the planet. But when you're a competitor, there's only so much niceness one can afford. Wilson reportedly admitted after the game that he was excited about going into overtime because of the high stakes. And so last year's Super Bowl rematch lived up to the hype as quarterback Russell Wilson led his Seattle Seahawks to victory when he beat Peyton Manning and the Denver Broncos 26-20.
Sometimes Super Bowl games turn out to be ugly, one-sided affairs. Last year, Denver was doomed from the opening snap. But fortunately they had a chance to redeem themselves on Sunday. Seattle won again, but Peyton Manning put his team in a great position to win by leading the Broncos into the end zone to tie the game in regulation.
Wilson came right back over the top, though, and led his offense down the field in overtime, scoring off of a 13-play, 80-yard drive to win the game (via ESPN):
"Anybody who loves football, or even if you don't love football, that was one for the ages. You have a guy like Peyton Manning to go up against, that's what you want. It was a battle to the end. It definitely felt like a Super Bowl out there today."
The usually reserved Wilson actually said he was down for a little gunslinging. His competitive spirit must have been in overdrive (via Cover 32):
"I know I shouldn't say this, but I actually wanted overtime. Of course I want to win in regulation, but overtime is so much fun. I live for those moments."
