Suspended Josh Shaw Awaits Return to Trojans after Hoax: USC Teammates Have Forgiven Him For Lying About Ankle Injury

USC Trojans' cornerback Josh Shaw is eagerly awaiting word that he can return to his football team. Shaw was suspended after it was revealed that he lied about his ankle injury last month. Shaw told teammates, coaches and press that he sprained his ankles jumping from a second story balcony to save his drowning nephew. He later revealed his story to be completely fabricated. The hoax earned Shaw an indefinite suspension, but his coaches and teammates say they have forgiven him.

When Shaw was suspended, Trojans coach Steve Sarkisian remarked that he was shocked and disappointed by the team captain's behavior. He said that Josh had always shown great character and was considered trustworthy.

Coach Sarkisian also said, however, that Shaw could possibly return (via Newsweek):

"There are some other things that have to take place.... When the time is right-and if the time is right-to bring him back, we will."

Teammate and fellow defensive player, Hayes Pullard, says that the guys are moving past the betrayal and are ready to take Shaw back into the fold. The linebacker says that it's time to move forward (via LA Times):

"Some of the players are still best friends with him in the locker room and you could tell that we were hurt by it at first, but he's our brother and he's our teammate. I'm just making sure that he's motivated and letting him know that the team forgave him."

While there is still a mystery as to how Shaw did injure himself and why exactly he lied, it seems the Trojans squad is ready to get back to football as usual and they're ready to do that with their brother, Josh Shaw.
