In week 3 NFL action, the Dallas Cowboys beat the St. Louis Rams. That had to feel pretty good for former Missouri defensive end Michael Sam, who was cut by St. Louis after being drafted in the seventh round. Dallas owner Jerry Jones picked Sam up for their practice squad. Sam got a hint of retribution Sunday when he watched his current team beat up his former team. St. Louis might be regretting their decision to get rid of the pass rusher after their loss to Dallas.
Hindsight is 20/20, but St. Louis Coach Jeff Fisher seemed to think keeping Sam on would be redundant. He may end up eating crow by the end of this season (via Out Sports):
"When the St. Louis Rams made Michael Sam one of their final cuts, the reason seemed clear -- they were loaded on the defensive line and that was a team strength. Now, three games into the season, the Rams defense has been a huge disappointment, especially the line that can't get any pressure on opposing quarterbacks."
Michael Sam's sexuality was a huge story a couple of months ago, but now the league has much bigger fish to fry (via Blogging the Boys):
"Maybe the Sam story would continue to attract attention in a normal year, but this is not a normal season for the NFL. Shortly after Sam arrived in Dallas, the sky fell in on the league. The full video of the Ray Rice assault on his then-fiance broke... The NFL found itself engulfed in a firestorm of criticism following the incoherent and inconsistent way things were handled by the teams and the league."
If the NFL can get back to playing some football, perhaps one of these teams will give Sam a try in a real game.
