Heralded as the premiere group for blending the indigenous rhythms and melodies of their beloved Veracruz with the stylings of classical music and jazz, The Villalobos Brothers will be part of Lincoln Center Local's live-stream viewing party this Saturday at the Brooklyn Public Library's Dweck Center for Contemporary Culture.
A trio of violinists and singer-songwriters from their Mexican homeland, they are now based in Marble Hill in uptown Manhattan.
Brothers by blood and heart, the three are keen on their roots and how they want to bring a new fusion of classical, jazz and Veracruzan styles together for a blend of new music that has yet to find a category.
Beginning as toddlers, the eldest brother, Ernesto Villalobos, recounts some of his earliest memories with the violin.
He told WNYC, "My earliest memory is of me being on a stage, holding a tiny violin and having my mom kneeling down next to me and helping me with the bow and seeing this group of people looking at me, which was my first audience, I guess, and I was wearing a diaper."
So with a big thanks to good people at Lincoln Center, the group can be seen in a live simulcast performance at the Central Library's Dweck Center and various other locations in Brooklyn, including Greenpoint, Kensington, Kings Highway, Macon and New Utrecht.
