David White, creator of the NY Dance and Performance Awards, aka the Bessie Awards, will be honored by the Bessie Steering Committee before the ceremony.
On Oct. 20, choreographers will honor White for his past 30 years of service. Every Angel Party ticket comes with priority seating at The Bessies ceremony at the Apollo, following hors d'oeuvres and cocktails at the Red Rooster in Harlem.
The Bessies, produced in partnership with Dance/NYC, honors choreography performance, music composition and visual design.
This year, the Bessies will honor Dr. Chuck Davis with the NY Dance and Performance Award for Service to the Field of Dance. Arthur Mitchell will be honored as well, receiving the NY Dance and Performance Award for Lifetime Achievement in Dance.
Other performers to be honored include Maggie Cloud for her work in Passagen by Pam Tanowitz, Sean Donovan for his role in the work of Witness Relocation, Jane Comfort, Faye Driscoll and many others.
Angel Party Host Committee members include Patsy Tarr, Victoria Traube, Ted Striggles, Elizabeth Streb, Kathy Spahn, Deborah Sale, Mark Russell, Nancy Reynolds, Virginia and Timothy Millhiser, Sam Miller, Jed Marcus, Christine Jowers, Josh Gotbaum and Joyce Thornhill, Jennifer Goodale, Joan Finkelstein, Cathy Edwards and Molly Davies.
The Bessies Steering Committee members include Arthur Aviles, Cora Cahan, Beverly D’Anne, Lane Harwell, Judy Hussie-Taylor, Carla Peterson, Laurie Uprichard, Martin Wechsler and Wendy Whelan.
