Injured Roman Reigns Out with Emergency Hernia Surgery, Match against Roman Reigns Cancelled after Rumors of Dean Ambrose Return

WWE Superstar Roman Reigns had emergency hernia surgery last night, according to WWE.com. While Reigns is expected to make a full recovery, unfortunately his match against Seth Rollins tonight at Night of Champions has been cancelled. The injured former Shield member may be out for up to 10-12 weeks, according to the report. There is no reason to believe this isn't a legitimate injury, but it does seem a bit suspicious after rumors have persisted for weeks about Dean Ambrose's highly anticipated return coming tonight.

Yesterday the wrestling world was rocked by the announcement that Roman Reigns would miss tonight's match at the Night of Champions Pay-Per-View (via USA Today):

"WWE.com has learned Roman Reigns has been rushed to a Nashville, Tenn., hospital to undergo emergency surgery for an incarcerated hernia. Reigns had been in Nashville to promote tomorrow's Night of Champions event. His recovery time will be evaluated by the local surgeon and WWE physician Dr. Chris Amann following today's operation."

The initial report, coming from WWE Network, appears to be legitimate, and not kayfabe. Although considering the modern wrestling landscape, it would be a huge swerve if Reigns came out tonight and sneak attacked Rollins.

The news of Roman Reigns' injury must come as a huge blow to WWE Creative, who seem to have been grooming him for ascension to the title scene. There has been much speculation among the internet wrestling community, with many predicting him to win the WWE World Heavyweight Championship at Wrestlemania XXXI next year.

Could a three month absence from the ring change all that? Are WWE concerned at all about the rapid rate at which their young, virile Superstars are falling to injury?

Also, what if Dean Ambrose wasn't coming right back from filming his movie? What if he was waiting for Hell in a Cell? That would leave a huge hole in the roster.
