Tony Romo Back Injuries Persist: Jerry Jones OK With Romo's Diminished Role if Cowboys Win

Tony Romo says he's fine with taking on a diminished role in the Cowboys' offense as long as they win games. Ditto for owner Jerry Jones. As Romo's back injuries obviously persist, Dallas seems intent on relying on ball control and a surprisingly solid ground game.

The seemingly perennial 8-8 Cowboys will probably try anything to get into the playoffs. Since longtime starter Tony Romo is not quite connecting like he used to, coach Jason Garrett has suggested terms like "complementary role" and "game manager" to describe what Dallas needs out of Romo right now.

Jerry Jones publicly supports this strategy, as he is on the record in favor of the W (via ABC News):

"I'm probably the one that's standing right behind Tony and saying, 'Yes, we like seeing that.' All of it works together. So the way we played Romo the other day fits me just fine and fits him just fine. It's called winning, and that's what we're here for."

Romo is mature enough to accept the fact that he's not 100%, even if he has implied otherwise during the offseason.

He's also wise enough to realize that a win is a win. Even if he can't throw the ball like he's used to doing, Romo still needs to control the offense the way only a veteran quarterback can (via ESPN):

"There will be games where I've got to play at a high level for us to win," Romo said, "and there will be games where we'll have the opportunity to do what we did and run the ball and do things.

"You've got a back like DeMarco Murray and a line that can pound in the running game, it gives you a chance. I like the way our team is heading."
