Classicalite reported that the Disney-Broadway sensation Newsies would be hitting a 25-city running tour in October 2014 — well now, after closing on Broadway after 1,005 shows, the production comes to the iconic Kimmel Center in Philadelphia.
The motto: "They delivered the papers, until they made the headlines."
Remember, Newsies wasn't exactly expected to take off. One meteoric rise later, the show finished with a 1,005 performance run on Broadway (when it was only expected to host 101).
A captivating story based on true events, the original book was written by Tony Award-winner Harvey Fierstein, with a score by yet another Tony winner, Alan Menken. With lyrics by Jack Feldman, the narrative playfully weaves through the philosophy "stand up for what you believe in."
A musical that New Yorkers won't soon forget, Newsies is not out-the-door just yet.
Coming to the Kimmel Center, Newsies premieres on Tuesday, Oct. 28 and runs until Sunday, Nov. 2.
