Pulitzer-Prize Winner Michael Chabon Talks The Bats and Upcoming Release 'Demo 5:26:84'

The latest from Pulitzer Prize winning Michael Chabon doesn't come in the form of text — it appears on vinyl, honoring his old post-punk outfit The Bats in a new 12'' format entitled Demo 5:26:84 from the Pittsburgh indie Mind Cure Records.

Chabon has some funny memories being in the band and self-deprecatingly takes a jab at himself being their frontman.

He was quoted at Wondering Sound saying, "[The] Bats were a fine little band, a unique assemblage of diverse strengths and quirks, anchored by one of the most rock-solid drummers ever to grace the Pittsburgh scene, and hampered only by the weakness of their goofball frontman."

Cute. But the author of books like The Mysteris of Pittsburgh and Wonder Boys fondly reflects on his days with the band (which were few in number). Maybe it wasn't his calling, as he also cites, but the fraction of time spent with the post-punkers definitely yielded him some street cred.

Make your way to Mind Cure's sit for more details and keep on the up about what's doing with the now-defunct Bats.

Though sans Chabon, check out The Bats below.
