Russell Wilson Shines Despite Loss to San Diego, Abuse Scandals and Cover-Ups Worse Than Christian Divorce

San Diego's upset win over Seattle was a boon to their ball club, but Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson still stood out Sunday as a shining example of the ideal NFL player despite their loss to the Chargers. Wilson's poise and class are a much needed counterpoint to the quagmire of controversies in which the league is currently stuck. Even though Wilson is going through a divorce conspicuously before his rookie contract expires, his public and private life seem squeaky clean compared to the drug suspension, abuse scandals and possible cover-ups. The league is definitely not worse off for Wilson's ultra-Christian, All-American persona right now.

Before Sunday's game, analysts on television wondered whether any AFC team could match up with Seattle in terms of physical play. The Chargers responded to the challenge by running the power I formation and running the ball down the throats of one of the best defenses in the league. San Diego held the ball on offense for an incredible forty-two minutes.

QB Phillip Rivers connected with Antonio Gates for three touchdowns in San Diego's 30-21 win over last year's Super Bowl champs, forcing Seattle to go to their rusty hurry-up package, which couldn't quite get them all the way.

Despite surely being frustrated, Wilson answered questions with a cool demeanor and proved once again that he has a championship mentality (via Seattle Times):

"Their offense did a good job and they played their best game. They did a really good job and that's
not easy to do against our defense. Guys were fighting on both sides of the ball and it's unfortunate we came up with a loss because we had a chance."

Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll backs up the public view of Wilson (via UT San Diego):

"There's not enough superlatives. He is just as complete of a person as you could hope to be working with. Whether it's in football or whether he's off the field, he's just a marvelous kid."
