Wrestling legend Jake "The Snake" Roberts has been diagnosed with cancer for a second time since July. The first tumor, in his knee, was successfully removed. But last month, Roberts was rushed to a Las Vegas hospital with double pneumonia. Though he is recovering from that near death scare, doctors discovered a tumor in Roberts' chest. Snake has had a history of drug and alcohol abuse, on top of the physical toll of about 40 years in the wrestling ring. He has, however, made a concentrated effort to turn his life around with the help of friend Diamond Dallas Page.
Roberts, who has been living with Page for the last year or so, has been working hard to take care of himself. Kicking booze and drugs, Roberts has also been partaking of the DDP Yoga system.
Unfortunately, though, Roberts has been struck ill several times this year. Through all his trials, the Snake has tried to look on the bright side (via TMZ):
"His voice is weak, but it's pretty bad ass to see the Hall of Fame wrestler's positive outlook on his fight with cancer."
He was even cracking jokes about losing 81 pounds on Twitter (via Wrestle Zone):
"227lbs. All the way from 308lbs how sweet is that? Granted pneumonia not a good way to achieve but I'm still taking it."
Roberts also tweeted about being thankful for his family. He has had a lot of failures in the past, and surely caused some pain, but they are trying to work through it (Wrestle Zone):
"Unbielevable [sic] weekend having two of my daughters taking care of me. Also took some time to scratch the past and try to soothe the wounds."
Good luck, Jake. And God speed.
