Fox’s New Girl is all new tonight with premiere of its fourth season. This year the Zooey Deschanel series is losing some of the drama of last season, and putting its focus back on comedy.
The official plot synopsis for tonight’s Season 4 premiere of the New Girl, titled "The Last Wedding," reads:
“In the Season 4 premiere, Jess attends a wedding with the guys and makes a pact for each of them to hook up with someone by the end of the night. As the evening progresses, Jess competes with another woman for the best man's attention; Schmidt and Nick entertain an unusual proposal; Winston recuperates from police academy; and Coach realizes that every woman at the reception is already familiar to him.”
Recently, Liz Meriwether, the show’s creator and executive producer, opened up to TV Guide about the removing some of the drama, this year:
“As my 13-year-old cousin said to me this weekend, 'Are people going to yell at each other less?' And I said, 'Yes. We all are just really trying to go for the funniest thing this year. I think the comedy is really our priority."
Meriwether, went on to talk about the problem with adding drama to a comedy show:
"I think last season we were really trying to do arcs. We were really trying to have this story continue on from episode to episode, and it's definitely tough to do on a network show, on a 21-minute show and we're also not drama writers, and so I think sometimes it was hard."
Check out the new episode of New Girl tonight at 9:00 p.m. on Fox.
