Miami Dolphins Struggle After Injury, Poor Performance in Week 2 Loss to Buffalo Bills

After beating New England in week 1, the Miami Dolphins were looking to go 2-0 in their home opener against the Buffalo Bills yesterday. Buffalo had different plans, however. The Bills topped Miami 29-10 as the Dolphins struggled to mount any offense, especially after the injury of star running back Knowshon Moreno. Their poor performance on offense, as well as Buffalo's inspired performance on special teams led to a three game head-to-head losing streak for Miami.

The 2-0 Buffalo Bills are riding high after the heartache of losing owner Ralph Wilson and the uncertainty of the team's future in Buffalo. It appears they are staying put after Sabres owners Terry and Kim Peluga bought the team. Wilson's death could have meant being moved to another city, but the Pelugas assured fans that they intend to keep the Bills right where they are.

In addition to a trio of field goals, the Bills also scored off of a blocked punt and a fumble recovery on special teams (via New York Times):

"'That's how we're going to have to win - by playing well in all three phases,' Buffalo Coach Doug Marrone said. 'Special teams, really, for the last two weeks, have done a heck of a job.'"

Unfortunately, Miami's apparent lack of depth in the backfield hurt them when running back Knowshon Moreno left the game with an injured elbow (via ESPN):

"'Obviously, we would love to have him, but you have to deal with those things,' [Dolphins Coach Joe] Philbin said. 'Injuries happen, so it didn't really impact the game plan a whole lot. Other guys have to step up.'"

Quarterback Ryan Tannehill said that Miami just needs to step up their whole game on offense, after completing a mere 31 out of 49 passes.
