Annie Ross will release a Billie Holiday tribute, To Lady with Love, October 7 on Red Anchor Records. The ballad heavy tribute will feature father and son musicians Bucky Pizzarelli and John Pizzarelli trading solo duties between themselves.
Seven out of the 10 tracks are Holiday’s from her album Lady In Satin. Holiday recorded Lady In Satin during the final years of her life with strings and chords on deck. In contrast, the Pizzarelli family will provide guitar support to Ross’ equally aging voice.
She evokes spoken word vocals on tracks “I Don’t Stand a Ghost of a Chance,” “When Your Love Has Gone,” and “I Get Along Without You Very Well.”
As a change of pace, Ross wrote her own piece for the closing track “Music Is Forever” with Russ Freeman.
The album comes complete with a DVD featuring interviews with the three artists.
