The Shadow of the Colossus film adaptation finally has a director and it is non-other than Andrés Muschietti. Sony Pictures Entertainment announced in a press release that the man behind who 2013’s horror film Mama will take on the role.
Andrés Muschietti is joined on the project by screenwriter Seth Lochhead who also co-wrote 2011 action thriller Hanna. The choice for Muschietti was natural as he is a fan of the original 2005 PlayStation 2 game by Team Ico and director Fumito Ueda.
Shadow of the Colossus the movie will stick to the basic premise of the game: a majestic journey through ancient lands where monsters called Colossus live.
Musheitti said of his work on Shadow of the Colossus that he hopes to "translate the immersive game experience into a film that stays true to the human story of a young man attempting to save his lost love by accomplishing a seemingly impossible task; the destruction of the colossi who roam the forbidden land."
Before Mushetti was a definite, Chronicle director Josh Trank wanted in. Trank was thought to direct the film with a with a Justin Marks script, the man behind Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun Li.
"We knew we had our director once we heard Andy's take on the material – it was genius," said Michael De Luca, president of production. "The themes, characters and supernatural elements of the story have incredible international appeal with fans of the game in the millions,” continued De Luca.
