Bollywood star Priyanka Chopra is looking to get tax-free status for her upcoming flick Mary Kom in Delhi. Mary Kom has already received the tax exemption in both Maharashtra and Uttar.
In her continued efforts, Priyanka met up with Delhi union minister Nitin Gadkari this past Tuesday, just a few days shy of the release for Mary Kom. No word yet on the tax exemption or what may have taken place during the meeting.
For now, Priyanka is simply looking forward to Mary Kom’s world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival . Priyanka is set to present on the film on Thursday during the festival.
Directed by Omung Kumar and co-produced by Viacom18 Motion Pictures and Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Mary Kom is the highly anticipated Bollywood film of 2104.
The basic premise of Mary Kom is the life and times of Indian female World Boxing Champ and Olympic bronze medalist Mangte Chungneijang Mary Kom, also known as MC Mary Kom, Magnificent Mary or simply Mary Kom. Kom grew up the daughter of a rice farmer in India and later faced discrimination as a female boxer.
“Female films in India sometimes don’t get as much as the boys do,” said Priyanka on the making of the film. “If (Mary Kom) ends up, you know, breaking those barriers, I think it’ll change a lot of things for female actresses. I’m hoping for that and we’ve done our best,” she continued.
