While Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger is preparing to turn up the heat on offense straight out of the gate, his teammates on defense are doing everything they can to be prepared as well. Though their season opener opponents, the Cleveland Browns, are starting Brian Hoyer at quarterback, the Steelers anticipate that rookie sensation Johnny Manziel will see at least some action on Sunday. It never hurts to be prepared in professional football.
Ben Roethlisberger thinks you can't underestimate a good start. He's hoping that getting his offense in the end zone as soon as possible will translate into momentum for the game as well as the rest of the season (via CBS Pittsburgh):
"We always want to start fast. We always want to score on the opening drive, whether it's the opening drive of the game or the (second) half. Of course, you can talk about starting the season fast as well."
Defensively, the Steelers are expecting to see Manziel for at least a couple of drives. That means being ready for a quarterback who can scramble and create offense out of nothing (via Yahoo Sports):
"We fully expect them to utilize him in some capacity in this football game. They didn't draft him in the first round to watch. ... We understand that."
