Breaking Glass Pictures is releasing Corpus Christi: Playing with Redemption on DVD and VOD on October 14. The documentary is based on Terrence McNally's Off-Broadway play Corpus Christi.
In the play, McNally portrays the story of Jesus and the Apostles as gay men living in present day Corpus Christi, Texas. Similarly, the docu follows the troupe, McNally, and audience members on a 5-year journey around the world surfacing issues involving religion and the LGBT community.
"Playing with Redemption and the I AM Love Campaign add a new dimension to the conversation that my play continues to provoke, and I look forward to CORPUS CHRISTI starting many more conversations around the country,” said McNally on the release of the dvd.
McNally’s play originally ran at the Manhattan Theatre Club in 1998 and was met with protest and bomb threats. McNally’s talent garnered him a four Tony Awards and fame for his Broadway hits Ragtime, Master Class, and Love! Valour! Compassion!
