The Tampa Bay Buccaneers will try to confound expectations this year. Anchoring their run defense on defensive tackle Gerald McCoy, the Bucs are counting on him to perform all season long. But rookie running back Charles Sims, who was placed on injured reserve, will have to wait until later on this season to prove that he can provide an offensive spark for the Bucs.
Charles Sims will be back midseason after undergoing ankle surgery. Tampa Bay is hoping that his return can add to their already made-over offensive package (via CBS Sports):
"The rookie wowed the team in the offseason and preseason before requiring surgery, and the Bucs have high hopes he could provide a boost down the stretch, which prompted them to use the designation so soon."
On defense, however, they are expecting big things straight out of the gate from defensive tackle Gerald McMoy. The Bucs are placing a lot of responsibility on his shoulders (via ESPN):
"Everyone has talked an awful lot about Gerald McCoy and we should. Very seldom do I make the statement, 'best at', but to me he's the best at his position in the league."
