The story coming out of Jacksonville is that Blake Bortles looks great. In fact, after a rocky start in training camp, Bortles reportedly underwent a transformation over the course of the preseason. However, the rookie QB is being benched in favor of veteran field general Chad Henne. Everyone is towing the line on the decision, which may end up being temporary, based on his quick improvement in the preseason.
While it's impossible to gauge the temperature of the locker room, the public stance from the coaches to the players is unified in their decision to start Henne (via Guardian):
"For reasons both pragmatic and precautionary, Bortles will not start the season, despite showing well in preseason."
Bortles' old high school coach also said that Blake seems cool with the decision (via Orlando Sentinel):
"I do know from talking to Blake and talking to his family that they are really pleased with how those coaches are handling everything. Blake talked about how enthusiastic and positive those guys are."
Surely Blake will get a chance to get some snaps in over the first few games. Perhaps the strategy is to gradually incorporate him into the regular season atmosphere in order to lessen the pressure.
