If this happens, you heard it here second, folks. Gordon Monson, a columnist at the Salt Lake Tribune, has made a bold prediction: the Philadelphia native picks the Eagles to win this year's Super Bowl. Granted, they topped the NFC East last year, but they'd likely have to get by either San Francisco or Seattle, who both look hungry to rematch last year's conference final. In other news, kicker Alex Henery was fired in favor of a rookie.
Alex Henery was replaced by younger and stronger rookie Cody Parkey, but he seems pretty stoic about it (via ESPN):
"It was just one of those things where I had no control over it, and I've always been someone who doesn't worry too much about things I can't control."
As far as winning the Super Bowl, it's not as far a long shot as, say, the Falcons, but it's still a stretch. Still, this guy (sort of) believes (via Salt Lake Tribune):
"They've been on or near the doorstep in the past. Now, in the legendary words of Bum Phillips, this is the year they kick the [expletive] door in and give those neighbors in the City of Brotherly Love what they've never had: a Super Bowl victory."
