Summer sensation Rory McIlroy is not exempt from the rules at the Ryder Cup. The PGA event has banned selfies and other such social media uploading by participants in the Cup. The Irish superstar should have gotten a selfie with the former president instead. Last Friday McIlroy had lunch with Bill Clinton.
Social media expert and college professor Sarah Pederson says it's completely understandable that the Ryder Cup would want to limit user generated content which may distort their desired presentation of the event (via Telegraph UK):
"If you have got people there with mobile phones instantly uploading things to the internet then of course you have no control over what sort of image is being presented of your event."
Slightly more dignified was McIlroy's lunch with President Bill Clinton last week. While he reportedly did not get a chance to play golf with the president, he nevertheless enjoyed the experience. Clinton is apparently a huge fan (via Boston Globe):
"I take a lot out of those sort of experiences. It's an honor for me to be in a position where I'm able to do things like that."
