Injured Manti Te'o Catfish Hoax Revisited After Josh Shaw Lying Scandal

In the wake of the Trojans' Josh Shaw lying scandal, the 2013 catfish hoax involving Manti Te'o was revisited in the news. Te'o, who told the media his girlfriend died on the same day as his grandma, was revealed to be lying about the girl's existence. As if that wasn't bad enough, Te'o sprained his foot for the second year in a row.

Te'o sprained his left foot a few weeks ago. It's an unfortunate coincidence; he sprained his right foot last year (via ESPN):

"It's not the same injury. It's something completely different."

After being tricked by hoaxter Ronaiah Tuiasosopo, Te'o then inexplicably lied to media, giving them fake details of his fake relationship with his fake girlfriend (via TMZ):

"Of course, while Te'o was at Notre Dame, he was catfished by a man -- pretending to be a girl -- but when Manti realized he was the victim of a hoax, he lied to the media in an effort to cover the whole thing up. Eventually, the whole story came to light ... the catfisher was ID'd as Ronaiah Tuiasosopo -- who eventually fessed up to hoaxing Te'o."
